The Gift of Their Story: Give Your Parents a Year of Afterlife.ai™
The Afterlife.ai™ gift is a year of their own AI Persona. They tell their stories out loud, and the people they invite can talk with their Persona and hear those stories in their own voice. One payment: US$149 for Legacy, US$299 for Eternal or US$599 for Pro, which adds Your Digital Avatar, a real-time video Persona of them. It never renews, and a printable card comes to you.
Every family has a parent or grandparent with stories nobody has written down: how they met, the job they quit, the winter the car broke down outside Topeka. Most of us mean to record them one day, and most of us never do. The Afterlife.ai™ gift fixes that with one payment. You give them a year of their own AI Persona, built from their own memories and stories, in their own voice, so the family can ask about those stories long after the holidays are over. This page explains exactly what they get, how the gift works, how it compares with a printed memoir book, and why it is the easiest meaningful present you will buy this Christmas.

Give them a year of their story this Christmas.
One payment of US$149, US$299 or US$599. It never renews, and the gift code and a printable card come to you.
Give a yearWhat does the Afterlife.ai™ gift include?
The gift is a full year of a paid Afterlife.ai™ plan for the person you choose: Legacy for US$149, Eternal for US$299 or Pro for US$599, paid once. They build their own Persona, a living AI version of themselves, by answering questions about their life, and their Persona speaks in their own voice. The people they invite can talk with their Persona and hear the stories told the way they tell them. Their account and every decision about it belong to them, not to you.

For most parents and grandparents, Legacy is plenty: 500 memories is a lot of stories, and ten people covers children and grandchildren in most families. Choose Eternal for a big family, for someone who will want to add a lifetime of photos, or for a grandparent who likes to talk. Choose Pro for the parent who would love to see themselves: Pro is everything in Eternal, plus Your Digital Avatar, a real-time video Persona of them in their own face and voice, and their own twin on their website, by API key and for AI agents. Plan details match our pricing page, where you can also compare the free build and Pro.
You get something too. Once they say yes, you have a seat to listen, which means the stories your mother tells her Persona about her own childhood are stories you can finally hear, in her voice, whenever you want.
How does the gift work?
You answer three short questions, pay once, and receive a gift code and a printable card by email, so you choose the moment you hand it over. Their year does not start until they claim it, which makes it ideal for buying on Black Friday and giving on Christmas morning.
Open the gift page at app.afterlife.ai/gift. You do not need an account.
Say who it is for and what they call you, for example "My dad. He calls me Dan."
Say what you want kept. Their story, their voice, their recipes, the things only they know, or all of it. This decides where their questions start.
Name the story they always tell. "The bridge in 1975." Their first session opens with it, in your words.
Write a short message. They hear it before anything else.
Choose Legacy, Eternal or Pro and pay once. The code and a printable card come to you, not to them.
Give it. Put the card in a stocking or under the tree. Their year starts when they claim it, and if they already have a plan, it starts when their current plan ends.
The whole process takes about five minutes, and because the gift arrives by email, it is also the rare meaningful present you can still buy on Christmas Eve.
Buy it on Black Friday, give it on Christmas morning.
Their year starts only when they claim it, so you can buy early and choose the moment.
Give a yearWhy is a year of their story a better gift than another thing?
Because it is an experience you share, not an object for a shelf. In a series of studies published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Cindy Chan of the University of Toronto and Cassie Mogilner found that experiential gifts did more than material gifts to strengthen the relationship between giver and recipient, because experiences are more emotionally evocative (ScienceDaily, 2016). Telling your life story, and hearing your children react to it, is about as emotional as a gift can get.
It also matters more than people realize. Psychologists Robyn Fivush and Marshall Duke at Emory University found that teenagers who knew more of their family's history showed higher emotional well-being and a stronger sense of identity (Phys.org, 2010). Your parents are the only source for most of those stories, and a Persona that can answer the grandchildren's questions keeps the source available.
And there are a lot of grandparents with stories to tell. There are about 65 million grandparents in America (AARP, 2026), and over half have at least one grandchild living more than 200 miles away (AARP, 2018). A Persona the grandchildren can call up and talk with is a way to close that distance between visits.
Who is the Afterlife.ai™ gift for?
It is for the person in your family whose stories you would most hate to lose, and who would never sit down to write a memoir. It works especially well for these people:
Parents who have everything. They do not need another sweater. They might love being asked about their life, and our guide to sentimental gifts for parents has more ideas.
Grandparents. Especially grandparents who live far from the grandchildren. See our Christmas gifts for grandparents and gifts for grandparents who have everything.
A parent with a milestone birthday. A 70th or 80th birthday is the natural moment to start telling the whole story.
Elderly parents. Talking is easier than writing, and our guide to gifts for elderly parents explains why voice-first gifts work best.
A dad who will not write a memoir. Plenty of fathers who would never fill a journal will happily talk about the Army, the first car or the business they built. See memory gifts for dad and memory gifts for mom.
How does it compare with Storyworth and other life story gifts?
Choose by what you want the family to end up with. If you want a printed book, Storyworth is a good choice. If you want their voice, and a Persona the family can ask questions, Afterlife.ai™ is the only gift on this list that does it. Prices are as of November 2026.
Gift | What they do | What the family ends up with | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
Storyworth Basic | Answer a weekly question by email, typing or by phone | One hardcover book, black and white interior | US$69 |
Storyworth Color | Same, with more book options | One full-color book, up to 300 pages | US$99 |
Recordable storybook | Read a picture book aloud into the book | One book in their voice, for young children | Varies |
Voice keepsake | Record a message onto a device or plush toy | A short recording in their voice | Varies |
Afterlife.ai™ Legacy year | Tell their stories out loud, at their own pace | A Persona that answers in their own voice | US$149 |
Afterlife.ai™ Eternal year | Same, with unlimited memories and people | The same, for a big family and a lifetime of photos | US$299 |
Afterlife.ai™ Pro year | Same, plus Your Digital Avatar: their Persona in their own face, live on their own calls on a computer | The same as Eternal | US$599 |
A book is finished the day it is printed. A Persona keeps answering, so when a grandchild asks in 2035 what their great-grandfather did in the war, there is an answer in his own voice instead of a page they have to find. For a closer look, read our comparisons of Storyworth alternatives, Storyworth pricing and recordable storybooks.
Is it a good gift for someone who is not good with technology?
Yes, because they do not have to write anything. Their Persona asks questions, and they can answer out loud, the way they would tell the story at the dinner table. The first session opens with the story you named when you bought the gift, so they start with something easy and familiar. If you can, set it up with them on Christmas afternoon and ask the first question together; most people relax once they hear their own story being remembered.
Do their stories stay private?
Yes. The Persona is theirs, and they decide who can talk with it by inviting people. Afterlife.ai™ is built on consent: a Persona is always built by the person themselves, while they are alive, and nobody can build one of someone else. Their plan also includes Executor Lock™, the patent-pending governance layer that lets them name the people who take over, and keeps their Persona exactly as they approved, so nobody can change who they are.
When should I buy it for Christmas?
Any time before Christmas Eve. The gift is delivered by email, so there is no shipping deadline to worry about, and the year does not start until they claim it. Buy it early if you want to print the card and put it in a frame or a stocking, or buy it on December 24 if you are late. It is also a good stocking stuffer to add to a physical present, such as a memory book or a voice keepsake.
The one present they cannot buy for themselves.
A year of their own Persona, in their own voice. One payment, never renews.
Give a yearFrequently asked questions
How much does the Afterlife.ai™ gift cost?
A year of Legacy costs US$149, a year of Eternal costs US$299 and a year of Pro costs US$599. It is one payment, made by you, and it never renews. There is nothing for them to pay during the gift year.
What happens after I buy the gift?
The gift code and a printable card are emailed to you, not to them, so you choose when to give it. They claim it by signing up, and their year starts when they do. If they already have a plan, the gift year starts when that plan ends.
What does a year of Pro add?
Pro is everything in Eternal, plus Your Digital Avatar, a real-time video Persona of them, ten times the voice of Legacy, and their twin on their website, by API key and for AI agents. It is the gift for the parent who would love to see and hear themselves, live. Your Digital Avatar works on a computer for now, for up to 30 minutes a month in calls of up to 10 minutes, and only they see it, on their own calls. A Pro gift is bought on the web at app.afterlife.ai/gift.
Does the gift renew automatically?
No. The gift is a single payment for one year and never renews. When the year is up, they can choose whether to continue.
Can I give the gift to someone who does not have an account?
Yes. Most people buy it for someone who has never used Afterlife.ai™. They create their account when they claim the gift, and their first session opens with the story you named.
What is the difference between a year of Legacy and a year of Eternal?
Legacy includes their Persona in their own voice, phone calls with their Persona, 500 memories, 10 people they can invite and 1 GB of storage. Eternal adds twice the voice, unlimited memories, unlimited people, unlimited storage and up to 5 executors. Legacy suits most parents, and Eternal suits big families.
Is this a good last-minute Christmas gift?
Yes. It arrives by email within minutes, so you can buy it on Christmas Eve and print the card at home. Their year does not start until they claim it.
Can I listen to my parent's stories?
Yes, once they say yes. As the giver you get a seat to listen, and they decide who else they invite. Every decision about their Persona belongs to them.
Is this the same as Storyworth?
No. Storyworth turns written answers into a printed book. Afterlife.ai™ builds a Persona that answers questions in their own voice, so the family can keep asking about their stories instead of reading a finished book.
Can I make a Persona of my parent for them?
No. A Persona is always built by the person themselves, with their consent. The gift gives them the year and the questions, and they tell the stories. You can help them get started, but the account and every decision belong to them.
